Pune is having a serious craft-beer moment right now, with local breweries gaining national notice. Doolally is the most famous of the lot—it recently spawned a Mumbai outpost—but it’s quite far outside the city. For a more accessible beer crawl, start with Effingut Brewerkz in nearby Koregaon Park. A popular craft brewery known for its bespoke beers, international pub grub menu and theme nights, Ladies’ Night Wednesdays mean free beer for women after 8 p.m. A great lunchtime option as well, this spot gets more animated as the day progresses, eventually making for an electric nighttime party environment. Slip out after one drink and head to the vibey patio of the brand-new Elephant & Co gastropub in Kalyani Nagar. They don’t brew their own beer, but they do come up with some ingenious beer-based cocktails (try the Bloody Beer or the Beer Iced Coffee) and serve cult Indian craft beers like Bira. End your crawl at Independence Brewing Company in Mundhwa, where seasonal brews incorporate bracing hints of mango and peach. An 80-rupee beer flight will get you tasters of Belgian Wit with citrus and coriander, four-grain saison with barley, oats, rye, and wheat. Independence is also known for its food, and in particular its fiery tandoori dishes—and there’s no better end to a night out than the chocolate soufflé here.
Effingut is in nearby Koregaon Park, about five minutes by car from the Conrad. Elephant & Co is 15 minutes away in Kalyani Nagar, while Independence Brewing Company is in Mundhwa, about 10 minutes east of Conrad Pune.
